Lancers take 1 of 4 wins

USCL looks to rebound this weekend by Robert Howey

The Lancers, who went 1-3 in a weekend series with Florence-Darlington Tech, host Pitt Community College on Saturday and Sunday at the LHS baseball field.

For the second straight weekend, the University of South Carolina Lancaster Lancers dodged a sweep by taking a win in a four-game Region X baseball series.

The Lancers, 29-12, 11-9, posted one win in four games in their weekend series at Florence Darlington Tech.

USCL captured game three to open play Saturday when it downed the Stingers, 11-5.

Casey Cooper, who hurled five innings, was the winner. He allowed three runs, six hits and a walk. He fanned one.

Cooper aided his cause with two hits and drove in three runs.

Travis Shelley worked two innings and yielded two runs, three hits and a walk. He struck out three.

Byron Haag led the USCL offense with three hits and drove in two runs. Kyle Towles had two hits and drove in a run.

Jared Huffman drilled a hit and drove in two runs.

Chavtin Venezia drilled a triple and Randy Luckett smashed a double. Jacob Murphy had a hit as did Brantley Rumford.

Florence Darlington captured the nightcap, taking a 7-6 win over the Lancers.

Logan Segee, the former Buford High School star, worked two innings and allowed two hits, three walks and a run. He fanned one in taking the loss.

Kyle Downs, in four frames, allowed four runs, five hits and four walks. He fanned one.

Brandon Faulkenberry, in 1.2 innings, allowed two runs and four hits. He fanned two batters. Ben Keane allowed a hit and a walk.

Jared Huffman had four hits, including a three-run home run, double and two singles.

Kyle Towles had a home run, double and drove in a run. Byron Haag had a double, single and a RBI.

Randy Luckett, Chavtin Venezia and Casey Cooper each had a hit for USCL.

Florence Darlington opened the series on Friday, taking a 10-7 win over the Lancers.

Stuart Pound, who went 3.1 innings, took the loss to give him a 4-3 record. He allowed seven runs, nine hits and three walks. He fanned three.

Ben Keane went two-thirds of an inning and gave up a run, hit and two walks. Logan Segee pitched two frames and gave up two runs, a hit and a walk.

Randy Luckett belted a three-run home run. Casey Cooper supplied a hit and drove in two runs.

Chavtin Venezia doubled as did Blake Outlaw. Brantley Rumford had a hit. Jared Huffman had two RBIs and Jacob Murphy tallied a run.

Florence Darlington downed USCL 10-2 to complete the sweep on Friday.

Jared Huffman had two hits and drove in a run.

Casey Cooper and Brantley Rumford each rapped a double.

Andrew Ansley, 2-2, took the loss in three innings of mound work.

Ansley gave up seven runs, six hits and three walks. Ansley whiffed one.

John McClure hurled three innings and gave up three runs, four hits and no walks. He struck out four.

The Lancers will be at home this weekend as they face Pitt Community College (N.C.) with games Saturday at 1 p.m. and Sunday at noon
