USCL Lancers sweep Junior Red Wolves

The University of South Carolina Lancaster baseball team celebrated its first-ever national ranking with a sweep of the Newberry College junior varsity on Thursday at the Lancaster High School field.
The 13th-ranked Lancers, 20-3, have posted 12 straight wins.

USCL topped the Junior Wolves, 7-2, 7-3 in the sweep. Earlier this season, the Lancers split a twin bill with the NC jayvees.
The Lancers laced 11 hits in posting the five-run win in the opener.
Kyle Towles paced USCL with three hits and a RBI. Casey Cooper chipped in two hits and drove in two runs.
Brantley Rumford and Jared Huffman each had a pair of hits and drove in a run. Randy Luckett and Jacob Murphy each had a hit.
Byron Haag and Blake Outlaw each scored a run for the Lancers.
USCL starter John McClure, 4-1, worked 3.2 innings and allowed two runs, two hits and three walks. He fanned two.
Logan Segee, the former Buford standout, went 1.1 innings and whiffed one.
Brandon Faulkenberry hurled an inning and allowed a walk. Dillon Gaines also went an inning and whiffed two with two walks.
The Lancers capped the sweep with a 7-3 win over the Junior Wolves.
Ritchie Robinson notched his first win, going four frames and yielded two runs, two hits and three walks. The former Lancaster High hurler struck out four.
Brian Hill pitched two-thirds of an inning and gave up a run and three hits. Ben Keane, in 1.1 innings, allowed a walk and fanned one. Travis Shelley went an inning and allowed a walk and fanned two.
Brantley Rumford boosted the USCL offense with a single, solo homer and a RBI. Kyle Towles also belted a solo homer.
Jordan Williams and Stuart Pound each drilled two hits and drove home a run. Jared Huffman had a hit and a RBI. Former Buford star Colt Ellis supplied a hit.
Casey Cooper and Randy Luckett each scored a run.
The Lancers returned to Region X play this weekend when they visited Sumter to face the USCS Fire Ants.
USCL will play the Limestone College junior varsity Wednesday in Gaffney for a twin bill with the Junior Saints.
