Lancers push mark to 14-3

he University of South Carolina Lancaster Lancers’ baseball team improved to 14-3, capturing five wins in their last two outings.

USCL swept three games from the Greensboro College junior varsity team over the weekend and then took a pair of games from the Limestone University jayvees on Monday.

USCL opened the series at Greensboro with an 8-1 win as Stuart Pound worked six innings for his second win. He struck out nine and allowed a hit and three walks.

Ben Keane hurled an inning, allowing a run, two walks and hit a batter.

Casey Cooper paced the offense with two doubles, a single and three runs batted in. Brantley Rumford had two hits.

Julian Steen supplied a hit and drove in two runs. Jared Huffman and Blake Outlaw each had a hit. Byron Haag and Colt Ellis each had a RBI.

The Lancers downed Greensboro 12-1 for their second win over the Pride.

Brantley Rumford ripped a triple, double and single and drove in three runs in the 11-run win. Jacob Murphy drilled two doubles and drove in three runs. Jordan Williams supplied two hits and drove in a pair of runs.

Casey Cooper drilled a triple and Julian Steen rapped a double.

Seth Johnson had a hit and drove in two runs. Kyle Davis and Randy Luckett added a hit apiece.

Andrew Ansley, 2-0, was the winner in three frames of work and three strikeouts. He allowed two hits, three walks and a run. Logan Segee hurled an inning and allowed a hit with a strikeout. Dillon Gaines went an inning and fanned two.

USCL wrapped up the series with a 6-2 victory over Greensboro.

Casey Cooper, 2-0, hurled six frames and yielded two runs, one earned, two walks and seven hits. He fanned five batters.

Brandon Faulkenberry worked an inning of scoreless relief.

Jared Huffman led the Lancers’ offense with two hits and drove in a run. Randy Luckett added two hits.

Kyle Towles doubled and drove in two runs.

Julian Steen had a hit and drove in a run. Casey Cooper, Stuart Pound, Jordan Williams and Jacob Murphy each had a hit.

The Lancers opened a sweep of the Limestone junior varsity with a 6-1 win over the Saints.

John McClure, in a route job, upped his record to 2-1. He allowed an earned run, three hits and four walks. McClure whiffed one.

Casey Cooper led the offense with two hits and drove in two runs. Ty Robinson had a hit and two RBIs.

Jared Huffman had a hit and drove in a run.

Kyle Towles and Jacob Murphy each had a hit. Julian Steen drove in a run.

 The Lancers travel to Spartanburg Methodist for two games Saturday and a pair on Sunday.
