Baseball Takes Two from Spartanburg Methodist College

The Lancers Baseball Team finished up the regular season by winning two games this past weekend.  The Lancers defeated the Pioneers of Spartanburg Methodist College by scores of 5 to 4 and 10 to 3.  The Lancers traveled to Spartanburg on Saturday as Matthew Justice took the mound.  Matthew went six strong innings while scattering four hits and allowing two runs.  Josh Shailer went an inning and gave up a hit and two runs.  Eric Yost, Bryan Drager, Tommy Winterstein, and Ben Taylor pitched strong in the game.  Ryan Manore took the win as he went an inning on the mound.  At the plate Ranz Bodison chipped in a hit with two runs driven in.  Mitchell Price drove in a run with a hit and Zach Callahan supplied two rbi's.  Bryan Dye had two hits and Manore had a run driven in on a sacrifice fly.

The Lancers played at home on Sunday and it was a special day for Dalton Socrates.  Dalton, who was diagnosed with leukemia threw out the first pitch, which was right in the strike zone.  Sunday, was also a special day at Doomsday Corner as the Baseball Team and the coaches shaved their heads in honor of Dalton, cancer patients, and cancer survivors.  Also, the team helped raise money for the Vs. Cancer Foundation which helps cancer patients and their families with medical costs and other bills.

Sam Pruitt pitched the first six innings of the game and earned his fourth win of the season.  He struck out four Pioneers and gave up three runs.  Josh Shailer pitched the final three innings and fanned four.  Derek Croxton hit his first homerun of the spring and drove in two runs.  Casey Parker had a double and a single which drove in two runs.  Tad Martin, Patrick Burt added a hit as did Ryan Manore.  Bryan Dye had two hits and Ranz Bodison also had two hits.  Jonah Crenshaw had a three hit game and Zach Callahan had two sacrifice flys.

The Lancers travel to Kinston, North Carolina on Friday to play in the Region X Baseball Tournament.  The team is ranked fourth in the region and will play on Saturday May 3rd at 4:00 against USC Sumter.  The tournament is double elimination.
