Lancers Compete in Region X Baseball Tournament

The USC Lancaster Lancers Baseball Team competed in the Region X Baseball Tournament in Kinston, North Carolina on May 3rd and 4th.  The Lancers faced USC Sumter in the first game on Saturday.  The Lancers played well, but came up short as they lost 7 to 5.  Austin Hill took the mound for the Lancers.  Austin went six innings while giving up seven hits and four runs.  He fanned four Fire Ants.  Josh Shailer pitched two innings and took the heartbreaking loss for the Lancers.  Tyler Jackson went an inning and gave up a hit and a run.  Patrick Burt paced the Lancers in hitting.  He went three for five with a double.  Casey Parker had two hits and a run driven in and Bryan Dye had a hit and a sacrifice fly that drove in three runs.  Jonah Crenshaw had two hits, one which was a double and Derek Croxton had two hits and scored three runs.

On Sunday, the guys faced Spartanburg Methodist College in the early afternoon game.  The Lancers lost 10 to 2.   Tanner Petrey started on the bump for the Lancers.  Tanner gave up three runs on four hits and suffered the loss.  Ryan Manore pitched two innings.  Bryan Drager and Tommy Winterstein also saw action on the mound.  Mitchell Price and Jonah Crenshaw each had two hits a piece.  Bryan Dye added an rbi single and Ranz Bodison drove in a run with a single.  Jordan Williams chipped in two hits and Casey Parker had a two hit game.  Tad Martin added a double and swiped a base.  The loss to Spartanburg Methodist eliminated the Lancers from the tournament.

Several Lancers earned Region X awards for their play this spring.  Pitcher Tyler Jackson and outfielder Zach Callahan earned Second Team Region X honors.  Shortstop Casey Parker earned First Team Region X honors and Bryan Dye also earned First Team honors.  Bryan was also named Region X Defensive Player of the Year.  Congratulations to these guys.  Also, the Lancers Baseball Team wants to thank all of the parents, staff, faculty, students, and the community for all of the support that was given to them this spring.
